Born from the belief that Great Music Deserves Great Beer, Signature Brew is on a mission to improve the quality of beer at venues and festivals – events that are so often saturated with tasteless corporate brews. Inspired by their commitment, we decided that Great Beer Deserves Great Design, and set about redesigning the brand’s visual identity and product range. Recognising that our work needed to flex across the brand’s diverse offer – a brewery and taproom, its own range of beers, and a number of collaboration beers with bands and musicians – we created a design system that balances the fixed with the flexible.

The new design system combines a strong and recognisable Signature Brew logo mark that can be set against a host of eclectic graphic backgrounds, empowering the brand to maintain the creative independence it needs when collaborating with numerous artists, all of whom are unique in their own right. For Signature’s own range, the background graphics were illustrated in-house, and are inspired by the eclecticism and vibrancy of vinyl album covers.

The resulting eclectic collection echoes the experience of flicking through record store collections, while the energy of the brand overall seeks to capture the craft, spirit and energy of both live music and beer innovation.

EXPERTLY REALISED

Reproducing the vibrancy and energy of the detailed illustrations that our designers were keen to see on cans was a creative challenge for our production team. Working alongside manufacturers and printers, we were able to innovate a host of new approaches that ensured the final products were as beautiful as the artworks and musical genres that inspired them.
